After a rigorous competition, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, representative of South Africa, won the crown to be the new Miss Universe 2017, leaving Miss Jamaica and Miss Colombia with the second and third place.

Epic, and not so epic moments of the new Miss Universe 2017

During this glamorous world of sculptural bodies, bright colors and beautiful smiles there were several notorious moments and here we make the recount:

The controversy generated by the new Miss Universe for wearing gloves with children infected with HIV

Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters is a 22-year-old girl who studied Business Administration. The new beauty queen has ensured that after the gala plans to work on "HIV prevention campaigns", a very common problem in his country.

However, in July of this year the South African woman faced a strong controversy to use in a visit she made to a home for orphaned children, mostly with HIV.

According to its detractors of social networks, this fact evidenced the racism that still exists in that area.

After the controversy, Nel Peters explained that she had worn gloves for hygiene reasons, to be able to manipulate the food that was served to the children of the place and she shared a video to clarify the situation.

It is the second time that a contestant from South Africa wins the contest

Under the slogan "Beauty without borders", 22-year-old Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters granted the crown to South Africa, however, it is not the first time this nation has won the crown. In 1978, Margaret Gardiner was the winner of this contest.

This edition of Miss Universe is, perhaps, the most diverse in its history thanks to the new system of choice. Of the 93 participants gathered in Las Vegas, the 16 finalists were chosen more equally: 4 from Europe, 4 from Africa and Asia, 4 from all over the Americas and 4 of them regardless of their origin.

The beauty queen may have been Miss Colombia

The Colombian Laura Ospina appeared as one of the favorites to take the victory in this competition of international beauty, however, it seems that the answer she gave to a question, modified the preference that may have been on the part of the judges.

The question for the final round was "What is the quality that you feel most proud of and how would you use that quality to become Miss Universe?"

To which Laura González responded "I am a super passionate woman with everything I do, I passionately have discipline, I passionately give my whole being to every stage I step on. I did it as an actress, I did it like Miss Colombia and I would do it as Miss Universe. "
